Former Arsenal midfielder Brian Talbot says it will be very difficult for Arsenal to win the Premier League title race with seven games left to be played this season albeit the game in hand.
The Ex Gunner says the team’s lack of consistency has cost the Gunners the chance to win the league title this season.
However, the former player urged the team to remain focused in the remaining games in order to finish as high as possible in order to avoid battling to make the top four.
“Leicester City have led the way, quite literally, when it comes to consistency,” said Talbot ahead of Saturday’s Emirates Stadium clash, as quoted by London24.
“The best Arsenal can really hope for, in my view, is another Champions League place. But it could have been so much better.
“The games are simply running out. If there were an extra five games to go then it would still be on – especially as we know this side is more than capable of going on a winning run – but there are not enough games to make up that 11- point gap.
“The nightmare scenario on the red side of north London is for Spurs to pip Leicester, but I still see Leicester very much in the driving seat. Having said that, despite some tough games ahead, Spurs have momentum – it will be interesting.”
“At times they(Arsenal) have been excellent. But consistency wins titles – nicking games when you maybe don’t deserve all three points,” he said. “They haven’t done that because they have been too inconsistent.”
Arsenal currently occupies 3rd position and trail Leicester City with 11 points, although the team has a game in hand. Wenger will be hoping the Leicester City and Tottenham drop points in the remaining games of the season while the team go on a superb run of form until the end of the season.
