Arsene Wenger is confident that Mesut Ozil will snub the reported interest from Spain to sign a new deal at the club.
Ozil is being linked with a move back to the La Liga with Barcelona reportedly keen on the German international. It is even claimed that the Catalan giants have already drafted out plans to sign Ozil with the club ready to part with Sandro, Munir and Turan in order to lure Ozil.
Ozil has two years left in his current contract and Wenger has moved to calm fears that the midfielder could be tempted to move to Barcelona by saying he is confident the attacking midfielder will put pen to paper on a new deal.
Wenger revealed the club will open contract talks with Ozil and Sanchez in the summer and he expects the duo to sign a contract extension
“They have a two-year contract,” Ozil was quoted as saying by the Turkish football.
“When I talk to them they are happy and they want to extend their contracts so I don’t think it’s a problem. That will be done in the summer.”
Ozil is currently leading the assist chat in the Premier League with 18 goals and he is on the verge of breaking the record for the most assist in the league currently held by Thierry Henry. However, Ozil has stated he is more concerned about winning trophies with the club than personal accolades.
