Borussia Monchengladbach has told Arsenal and other clubs interested in Granit Xhaka that the midfielder is not for sale.
The Swiss international is thought to be high on Arsene Wenger’s wishlist with the club prepared to submit a bid of £35m for his services this summer. Last week it was claimed that Wenger met with the player’s representatives and has offered the midfielder a salary package worth £120,000 a week.
The German club is now determined to keep their captain beyond the current campaign and Xhaka’s whose contract at Monchengladbach expires in 2019 may have to wait a little longer before seeing his dream move to the English Premier League come true.
Monchengladbach’s director of sport Marx Eberl revealed during the weekend that they are not prepared to lose the midfielder and will not entertain any offer for his services.
“Xhaka is our captain. That should be the case next season.
There’s no need to call us. We want to keep him. There are no discussions,” Eberl said, as quoted by Ibtimes.
With Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini expected to leave the club this summer, Wenger is in need of midfield reinforcement and will turn his attention to other midfield targets should he not be able to convince Monchengladbach to sell their captain
