Mesut Ozil is demanding a whooping £200,000 a week salary before he signs a new deal at the club, according to Squawka.
The midfielder currently has two years left in his contract and the Gunners are keen to open talks with him.
Ozil is being linked with a move back to the La Liga with Barcelona reportedly keen on the German international. It is even claimed that the Catalan giants have already drafted out plans to sign Ozil.
According to the report, Arsenal are only prepared to offer the midfielder a new deal worth £180,000-a-week which is £20,000 short of what the midfielder’s camp are requesting, but Stobart of Squawka believes the German will not be leaving the club despite the reported interest from La Liga.
Stobart said: “I don’t think anyone can afford him for a start.
Arsenal, we all know, have bags of money, they’ve got £190m odd cash reserves in the bank. Ozil is on good wages, he’s the star man here. He’s only played for Real Madrid, so that leaves you with Barcelona – which would be a tough one, having played for Real Madrid.
“But he likes life in London and is playing very well. I think he will probably sign a new contract. We might see him being linked with a couple of more clubs before he signs a new deal. I think he’s pushing for around £200,000-a-week, Arsenal want to offer around £180,000-a-week. I think it will happen, which will be huge for Arsenal.”
Ozil has been an important member in the first team this season, he is currently having one of the best season in his career and has recorded 5 goals and provided 18 assists in the league so far.
