Arsenal have joined Chelsea in the race to sign AS Roma centre half Kostas Manolas, according to reports.

The Gunners were linked with a move to sign the Greek international two summers ago and according to recent indications, Wenger has renewed his interest in the centre half and would try to sign him in the summer when transfer window reopens.

Wenger is reportedly keen on bolstering is centre back options as he searches for a new man to partner Laurent Koscielny in the heart of the defence.

The Gunners were in advanced talks with Olympiakos to sign the defender for £8m in 2014 before Roma tabled a superior bid to lure the defender to Rome, according to football insider via the Daily Express.

According to the same publication, Arsenal have now renewed their interest in signing the defender who is now valued at about £30m and would rival Chelsea for his signature.

The Blues who recently confirmed former Juventus boss Antonio Conte are reportedly interested in the defender who they see as a successor to John Terry.

Wenger has his work cut out for him as it will take a lot to convince Roma who currently sit third on the Serie A table to part with a player who still has 3 years left in his contract.

Spending rather than having a transfer warchest has always been the problem with manager Arsene Wenger, the Gunners faithful will be hoping the boss doesn’t miss out on the Greek international for a second time in just two years.

The defender is well known by Antonio Conte and his arrival at the Emirates would be a massive blow to the London rivals Chelsea.
