Arsenal’s attempt to sign Nigeria Starlet Samuel Chukwueze was on the brink of collapse until it was revived, according to Allnigeriasoccer.com.
The forward is set to complete a move to the Emirates after months of negotiations with the player’s academy. The Gunners were linked with a move to sign the 17-year-old as far back as January alongside his under 17 teammates Kelechi Nwakali.
Nwakali reportedly completed a move to Arsenal in March and Chukwueze is set to follow suit a month later.
Diamond football academy president Martin Apugo has revealed why Chukwueze’s deal took longer to complete than his compatriot’s.
According to Apugo, the deal to take Chukwueze to the Emirates was on the verge of breaking down until it was recently revived. The academy’s president wanted the player to move somewhere else but Chuwkueze was insistent on becoming a Gunner.
“Chukwueze is still joining Arsenal, he will travel any moment from now to start training with them” Diamond Academy supremo,Apugo, told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“I didn’t want him to go to Arsenal, wanted him to go somewhere else but he said he’ll be happy if he goes to Arsenal.”
It’s a good thing when players have the passion for playing for Arsenal and we hope the passion would push the youngster to develop into a top player for the team.
Should Wenger complete the deal to sign the striker, he won’t be eligible for a professional contract until he turns 18 as FIFA rules prevent European clubs from signing players under 18 from outside Europe unless the player is on the continent for other reasons outside football.
