Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley was in Holland recently to keep tabs on Ajax midfielder Richiedly Bazoer, according to reports.
Bazoer, 19, is highly rated at the Dutch club and he is being linked to former Arsenal star Patrick Viera.
The six-foot tall midfielder is lighting up the Dutch league with his performances and he has attracted interest from other Premier League’s club including Manchester City and Tottenham.
According to the Daily Mirror via the Express, Arsenal wants to sign the midfielder this summer as Wenger is said to be impressed with the midfielder’s performances.
Wenger is reportedly in search of a midfielder as he prepares for a midfield overhaul which will see Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Thomas Rosicky leave the club at the end of the season.
Incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly interested in luring Bazoer to the Etihad while Mauricio Pochettino sees the midfielder as a good addition to his squad as he prepares his team for the Champions League next season.
According to the report, Wenger would try to tempt Ajax with a fee of about £15.5m in order to beat his rivals to Bazoer’s signature.
Bazoer is highly rated in Netherlands and it would be a massive coup should Wenger be able to sign the midfielder for that fee.
Bazoer has scored six goals in 40 games since making his debut for Ajax first team in 2013.
