Arsenal have stepped up their attempts to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka. As Wenger close in on the midfielder as his first summer signing, Karim Benzema’s swoop is also being lined up, via the Daily Mail.
Wenger has been linked with a move to sign the midfielder since the January transfer window. Wenger will finally get his man this summer as the German club are already resigned to losing their captain this summer.
It is believed that Arsenal are willing to pay £20m for the midfielder while the German club are holding out for a fee in the region of £30m.
However, the report claims both clubs are confident they will reach an agreement sooner rather than later.
With the Xhaka’s deal almost concluded, Wenger has now turned his attentions to signing a top striker.
Arsenal will keep tabs on Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and are currently exploring the possibility to sign the striker.
Wenger has been linked with a move to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Zlatan Ibrahimovic but Aubameyang has ruled out a move to England with the Gabonese international setting his sight on a move to Real Madrid. Wenger is reportedly unwilling to meet Ibrahimovic’s wage demands, hence has opted against signing Ibrahimovic. Benzema remains the club’s best bet to sign a top striker and Wenger is keen on bringing the striker to the Emirates should Madrid decide to sell.
