West Ham are set to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Celta Vigo forward Nolito, according to reports.
The Spanish international was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in the winter transfer window with some reports claiming before January that the move to bring Nolito to the Emirates was already a done deal. However, the move failed to materialize for unknown reasons but it seems Arsenal have now lost the chance to sign the Spanish forward.
Whether Wenger remains interested in the winger is one question in the mind of many but one thing that looks likely is that Wenger will try to strengthen his squad this summer.
The Frenchman recently claimed that Walcott’s future at Arsenal is uncertain and should the England international leave the Emirates this summer, Nolito would be a like for like replacement for Walcott.
According to the Sunday People via Team talk, Arsenal scouts still attend Celta’s game and they could possibly be keeping tabs on Nolito but West Ham now lead the race to sign the forward.
The player is valued at £18m and with the new TV rights deal, the fee wouldn’t be a problem for Slaven Bilic’s men.
Bilic is keen to land a pacy winger this summer and is also monitoring Arsenal’s duo Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Theo Walcott.
Nolito has 11 goals and six assists in 25 La Liga appearances this season.
