Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher suggests Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone will be wrong for Arsenal.

Wenger has received criticism for the team’s inability to challenge for the Premier League title in a season where Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City failed to live up to expectations.

The severe criticism has even led to some section of the Gooners calling for Wenger to be sacked this summer. Although it is looking unlikely that the French man will be shown the exit door this summer, many ex-gunners have urged the club to sign Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone should Wenger leave the club.

However, Carragher is of a different opinion. The former Liverpool man believes hiring Simeone will cause “a total change of culture” at the club. It’s surprising how Carragher got to know about the culture at Arsenal as he spent his entire career with Liverpool.

Carragher also urged the club to give Wenger the chance to see out his contract which expires at the end of next season claiming there is no standout candidate available to replace the French man this season.

“Wenger should get the final year of his contract because there is no standout candidate available to come straight in,” he told the Daily Mail, as quoted by Squawka.

“Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone would be the highest-  profile target but he and Wenger are chalk and cheese. I love what Simeone has done but Atletico are the most defensive team in Europe. For him to come in now would require a total change in culture at Arsenal.”
