Arsenal are on the verge of signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to reports.
The midfielder who has been impressive for Thomas Tuchel’s men this summer have less than two years left on his contract and is reportedly undecided if he should remain at the Signal Iduna Park or not. With Wenger prepared to allow Thomas Rosicky leave this summer, Mkhitaryan is seen as an ideal replacement for the Czech Veteran.
Rosicky joined Arsenal from BVB in 2006 and Wenger is prepared to tempt Mkhitaryan to follow the same path. However, there is resistance from Chelsea and Juventus as both clubs are keen on the midfielder as well.
According to Italian publication, Tuttomercatoweb via the Daily Star Arsenal are leading the race to sign the Armenian international.
The report also added that the Gunners will be made to pay £23m for the midfielder’s services and will offer the player a salary package worth £96,000 a week.
However, the downside of this report is that the publication also claimed Wenger will approve the sale of Mesut Ozil in order to fund Mkhitaryan’s deal.
Ozil is an important member of the Gunners squad and any idea of selling the midfielder seems like weakening the squad.
