Arsenal legend Thierry Henry might be headed back to his old club if rumors are to be believed. According to reports, Henry is in line to join Mikel Arteta as part of the coaching staff for the Club’s youth academy. If Henry decides to take the position, it will give the club a boost in the soccer rankings.
Henry, who is considered by most to be the greatest player to put on the Arsenal jersey has been rumored to be interested in coaching the club. Since he doesn’t have any previous experience managing a team, he is expected to work his way up the ladder.
Right now, Arsene Wenger is still in charge of the first team, but it has been over a decade since the Gunners last won the Premier League title, and fans have started voicing their displeasure about the direction the club is headed, which means Wenger could be on the hot seat and be replaced if he doesn’t bring home the title next season.
Since the team announced its plans to shake up its youth academy, Henry will be in a good position to take over the senior team if he is successful at the youth level and Wenger is dismissed in the future.
Henry has shown that he is serious about becoming a manager, and has received his UEFA coaching badges while also working at the Hale End academy with different age groups, which has impressed Arsenal management.
However, Henry is also a pundit at Sky Sports, which is something he will likely want to continue doing even if he is the coach of the youth academy.
Despite his other commitments, Arsenal’s management believe they can get him to coach their youth academy and are willing to do whatever he takes to get him back with the club. Current youth academy manager Andries Jonker is likely on his way out, and the team’s under 16 coach Jan van Loon is also expected to leave, which makes signing Henry a priority for the club this summer.
If Henry decided not to accept the club’s offer, current team captain Mikel Arteta, is another target the club is said to be seriously considering. Arteta, who is also said to be interested in coaching once his career is over.
If Arsenal decides to go after Arteta, they won’t be the only ones trying to sign him. Pep Guardiola, who is going to manage Manchester City next season, is reportedly very interested in adding Arteta to his staff.
With Manchester City showing interest in Arteta, Arsenal needs to move quickly in their attempt to sign Henry. If they can’t come to terms with the Frenchman, there will still be enough time for them to go after Arteta.
Another dilemma Arsenal faces in terms of Arteta is the fact that his contract expires after the season is over. According to reports, the club is not interested in giving him a new contract so it might be a little difficult for the team to try and convince him to come back and coach their youth academy.
Since Henry has shown he is serious about coaching and one day hopes to coach the Arsenal senior team, he will likely accept the job as their youth academy coach.
