Arsenal’s attempts to sign Bayern Munich centre-back Medhi Benatia are set to be frustrated as three Italian clubs join the race to sign the Morocco international.
Wenger is reportedly keeping an eye on Benatia’s situation at Bayern and the French man is thought to be keen on the 29-year-old.
According to Calciomercato via the Express, Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in the defender and would rival Arsenal for his signature.
The report also added that the player is keen on a switch back to the Serie A and is eyeing a move back to AS Roma as he loves the idea of working with Luciano Spalletti at Roma.
Benatia’s future has been plunged into uncertainty due to Bayern’s attempt to sign Matt Hummels and the arrival of a new centre back at the Alianz Arena could force Benatia out of the club. When asked about his future last week, Benatia said: “In my case, if I have to leave Bayern at the end of this season, then I will leave.
“I will not do it like the managerial staff, who spoke about transfer rumours before an important game like the semi-finals of the Champions league [against Atletico Madrid].
“I am only thinking on finishing the season well and I want to live great emotions. I am talking about the Champions League, the Bundesliga title and the German Cup. In a player’s career, it is important to live these moments.”
Benatia has failed to settle in Germany and could be a reason why he is eyeing a switch back to the Serie A where he has played before instead of the Premier League.
