Arsenal have made AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas its top defensive target this summer, according to reports.
The Gunners were linked with a move to sign the defender two years ago but he ended up joining AS Roma for a fee of £10.3m. Wenger has now renewed his interest in the defender and has made him his top target to strengthen the defence this summer, according to Goal via the Daily Express.
It is believed that the defender’s ball playing ability and his ability to read the game so well has impressed Wenger.
The Gunners would face competition from Chelsea as incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has also earmarked the defender as a potential summer target. The Blues see him as a replacement for veteran John Terry.
Wenger has his work cut out for him as it will not be easy to convince Roma who will likely qualify for the champions League next season to part with a player who still has 3 years left in his contract.
Spending rather than having a transfer warchest has always been the problem with manager Arsene Wenger, the Gunners faithful will be hoping the boss doesn’t miss out on the Greek international for a second time in just two years.
