The club has been linked with AS Roma’s Kostas Manolas with reports claiming the Greek international is Wenger’s first choice to strengthen the defence line.
However, it appears Wenger is also keeping his options open and has an eye on the man Manolas replaced at Roma in 2013. According to the Daily Star via the Mirror, Arsene Wenger is keeping tabs on Bayern Munich’s Medhi Benatia ahead of a possible summer move.
Benatia is not having the best season at Bayern after struggling with poor form and injuries this term but the 29-year-old is still highly rated by Wenger.
With Bayern Munich chasing Borussia Dortmund’s Matt Hummels, Benatia could be allowed to leave the club and Wenger could decide not to miss up on that opportunity.
Benatia joined Bayern Munich for a fee of €26m in 2014 but the 29-year-old has failed to establish himself at the Allianz Arena since moving to Germany
