Arsenal have opened talks with Leicester City as regards signing its midfield duo Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante, according to reports.
Wenger is reportedly interested in strengthening his midfielder this summer and has identified the Foxes duo as his key targets.
Wenger had previously revealed he missed out on the two players when they were playing in the French League prior to their move to the King Power Stadium. While he revealed he had been watching Kante for a long time, he admitted he never knew of Mahrez, however, the French tactician has been impressed by the two players this season and is now keen on securing a double deal for the two midfielders worth £60m.
According to Football-talk, Arsenal have opened discussions with Leicester City over signing both players this summer. It is believed that the current league champions are resigned to losing Kante this summer should his £20m release clause be triggered.
Mahrez who is being seen as a replacement for Theo Walcott is valued by the champions at £40m. Although the Foxes are not interested in selling the current PFA player of the year, they won’t let him leave below £40m should they be forced to sell.
Arsenal’s interest in the duo is believed to be serious and when questioned about his interest in Kante, Wenger remained coy on the reports.
“I think he will play in the European Championships and for me he was one of the players of the year in the Premier League,” Wenger said.
“I cannot tell you anything now.
“He is under contract with Leicester.
“I am sure if Leicester want to sell him, they will find some buyer.”
Kante has been superb for Leicester this season scoring 1 league goal from the defensive midfield position while Mahrez contributed 17 league goals and 11 assists as Leicester marched on to lift the Premier League title.
