Arsenal midfielder Gideon Zelalem has revealed he will return to the club this summer and evaluate his chances of making the first team next season.
The United States midfielder is currently with Scottish side Glasgow Rangers on a season-long loan. The midfielder has been impressive for the Scottish side earning plaudits from a both the Gooners and Rangers fans. The Scottish club has previously expressed their desire to take the midfielder on loan for another season but it seems the youngster will have to report at Arsenal for the preseason to be assessed by Wenger.
The 19-year-old midfielder confirmed he will be at Arsenal this season as he tries to secure a spot in the Gunners first team.
“The whole point of a loan deal is to get experience, and I’ll go back to Arsenal and strive to get involved there, the midfielder said.”
“The contact has been good, and they get a lot of feedback and scouts have been coming to watch the games.
“When I go back though, I will always keep in touch with Rangers and see how they are doing.”
With Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Thomas Rosicky set to leave the club this summer, Zelalem could do well to take one of these places up for grabs should he impress in the club’s preseason. Zelalem was part of the Gunners preseason squad last summer, although the midfielder was impressive, but Wenger felt it was better for the youngster to gain top level experience out on loan.
The midfielder has 8 assists in 27 appearances this season and will be assessed by Wenger again.
