Arsenal are weighing up whether to bid for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi this summer, according to reports.
The Gunners have been dealt a big blow by the news that Danny Welbeck will be out of action for up to nine months and Wenger is now willing to step up his interest for a centre-forward.
The French man reportedly eyes Juventus Alvaro Morata and is also keeping tabs on Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi and Michy Batshuayi.
According to the Daily Star, Arsenal could make a move for the Marseille forward after Welbeck’s injury.
Theo Walcott has failed to impress in the centre-forward role this season and with Welbeck out for a long term, Wenger has only Giroud to call upon.
Batshuayi has been impressive for Marseille in the last couple of years and is being rated at about £30m.
Tottenham and West Ham are also interested in the striker and Arsenal could get their man should Wenger act fast.
Marseille on their own are already resigned to losing the 22-year-old after the French club manager confirmed the striker would be allowed to leave. It is believed Marseille are in financial troubles and will use the sale of their top striker to alleviate their situation.
“Everybody knows that he will leave,” said Passi. “It is included in the accounts that Michy will be sold this summer.
“We will accept it. We know why players leave Marseille, the financials are not so enticing, we have to accept it.”
The striker scored 7 goals in 25 appearances this season as helped the French side avoid relegation this season.
