Arsene Wenger will likely be given £54.1m to spend on new players this summer, according to a Financial analyst Author Ravi Lockyer.
Wenger has been heavily tipped to spend big this summer as he attempts to bolster his squad ahead of next season but a look into the Gunner’s financial report has revealed the manager could be given just £54.1m to spend this summer and any other purchase will have to be funded by player sales.
According to Ravi Lockyer, Arsenal do not have so much money to spend contrary to reports that claims the club has a healthy financial reserve.
“What we have with Arsenal is a number of expectation gaps,” Lockyer told the Evening Standard, via the Daily Star.
“First and foremost that is between what the fans expect from the club and what the club could comfortably spend.
“But also another gap between what the club could spend and what they likely would spend, which I expect to be short of the £54.1m.
“This is not a club that is being run for short-term success.
Arsenal are showing that they want to be a team that is in the Premier League in five, 10, 15 years’ time.”
Arsenal are reportedly close to spending £34m of the reported £54m on Granit Xhaka meaning the club would have to fund the purchase of a top striker from the sale of current players.
