Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed an official offer has been made for their captain Granit Xhaka.
The midfielder has been heavily linked with a £34m move to Arsenal this summer. When numerous reports claimed the deal is as good as a done deal, Gladbach insisted they hadn’t received any offer for the midfielder.
However, there is now a new turn of event as the club confirmed on Tuesday they have now received an official offer for their captain but insisted an agreement has not been reached with the interested club. A statement on the club’s official website via Goal.com indicated:
“Sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that there has been a specific offer for the Swiss midfielder,” the post read. “An agreement with the interested club is still pending.”
It is widely reported that the official offer was submitted by Arsenal and the player has fueled those reports by claiming he can “imagine playing for Arsenal” in an interview with Swiss television SRF.
He said: “Whether there are talks or not, the clubs Gladbach and Arsenal know that, but as of now I am still a Gladbach player.
“It might change in the next weeks or it might not change.
“There will definitely be a decision before the European Championship.”
Xhaka also attracted the interest of Manchester City and Juventus but the Swiss international prefers a move to the Emirates.
