Arsenal have set plans in place to beat Chelsea to the signature of Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports.
Wenger is seriously interested in signing a striker this summer and Morata appears to be high on the French man’s wish list. However, Wenger isn’t going to have it his own way as Chelsea are seriously interested in Morata too. Reports claim incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keen on signing the 23-year-old to help boost his forward line at the Stamford Bridge. But Wenger has plans to thwart his rivals as The Sun via the Daily Star claim Wenger is prepared to smash his club’s wage barrier to make the 23 year old one of the highest paid player in the squad.
The report claims while Chelsea are prepared to offer the striker a basic salary of £135,000 a week, Arsenal are ready to offer a five year deal worth £155,000 a week.
Real Madrid are expected to activate the £26 buy back clause in the player’s contract to sign him from Juventus and sell him for a higher fee. Juventus are not keen on losing the player but with the wages being quoted, the Italian side will not be able to match their rivals.
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to pay as much as £51m for the 23 year old.
