Ex Arsenal star John Hartson believes the Gunners will spend as much as £150m this summer, according to the Daily star.
Arsene Wenger has been known for being prudent in the transfer window having managed to sign just Petr Cech and Mohammed Elneny in each of the last two transfer windows but Hartson has backed the manager to spend big this summer as he attempts to take what could be his last shot at winning the league title.
Wenger’s current contract expires at the end of next season and there is growing feeling at the Emirates that next season could be the French man’s last and Hartson believes the manager will go all out to strengthen his squad before the start of next season.
“I do think Arsene Wenger will spend an awful lot of money this summer, Hartson told Starsport.
“He’ll spend big and with him having probably just another year there, he’ll think ‘right, I’m going to go out with a big bang’.
“I reckon he’ll think ‘I’m going to spend all this money that’s been given to me’.
“I think he’ll actually spend up to £150m this summer, I really, really do.”
Arsenal are being tipped to sign a centre-forward this summer and Hartson has urged Wenger to use a large chunk of his transfer budget to sign Robert Lewandowski.
He added: “I’d like them to go and get a Lewandowski, that type of player.
“Someone like how [Thierry] Henry was. Someone who is mobile, someone who is a real presence, someone who can head it, score left foot, right foot and fire in volleys. I think the crowd would love that too.
“Alexis Sanchez has flattered to deceive at times this season even if he did have a wonderful first year. Now another big marquee signing is needed.
“I know they’ve got in Ozil and Sanchez and paid big money for them but I’d love a Lewandowski.”
However Arsenal are being linked with a move to sign Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and the French man is said to be very keen on the Juventus striker.
