Arsenal’s new signing Granit Xhaka has revealed the club have been working out a deal to sign him since last summer. Reports started linking the midfielder with a move to the Emirates around October and those reports were at its peak in the January transfer window but Wenger opted to sign Mohammed Elneny in January. However, that didn’t stop Xhaka’s name from popping up in the Gunner’s rumour mill. Wenger finally made a move for the Switzerland man last week and after the deal was confirmed yesterday, Xhaka revealed Wenger first contacted him about a year ago, adding:
“I was almost speechless when he called.”
The midfielder revealed he wanted the deal to happen as soon as possible and couldn’t keep to himself as the move drew closer.
“It was a very difficult week for me,” he told reporters in Switzerland. “I found myself on tour with Gladbach in Switzerland and had to keep a muzzle on myself, even though that’s not something I like to do.”
The midfielder is excited to have completed his move to the Emirates and has talked up the process of playing under Wenger.
“Arsène is a legend for me,” he said. “I often had him as a manager on thePlayStation. He’s a gentleman, full stop.”
