Manchester United and Arsenal are set to go head to head in the race to sign Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano.

The Argentine international has refused to commit his long term future to the Spanish giants and it is believed he could push for an exit this summer.

According to Spanish Publication Mundo Deportivo via the Daily Express, Arsenal and Man Utd are looking to bring the midfielder back to the Premier League.

Mascherano was regarded as one of the best midfielder in English League when at Liverpool but since moving to the Camp Nou, the Argentine has been used primarily as a centre defender.

The midfielder is reportedly prepared for a new challenge and this has alerted a lot of top clubs in Europe.

Juventus are said to be leading the race to sign the midfielder but with the large amount of cash available to Arsene Wenger, we wouldn’t be surprise if Arsenal beat the Italian giants to the signing of the midfielder.

And while the midfielder quickly dismissed reports linking him away from Barcelona this summer, he admitted he could leave the Camp Nou soon.

“There will come a day where everything has to end,” he told TyC Sports.

“I don’t know if it will be now, in one year, or in two or even three.

“I always analyse everything, and it’s obvious that at this point [the Juventus talk] is just a rumour.

“I am at Barcelona, and I am very grateful to the club. As for the future? I don’t like to hang on to anything.”

Mascherano has won all the major trophy there is to win in European football and signing a midfielder with such wealth of experience would strengthen the squad considerably.
