Arsenal are now interested in signing Villareal defender Mateo Musacchio, according to reports in Spain.
Wenger is believed to be interested in signing a centre-back this summer and has been linked with a host of names as he tries to shore up his defense ahead of next season. The recent defender being linked with a move to the Emirates is now Argentine defender Musacchio.
The Argentine ace was in superb form for Villareal all through the season and his form is said to have attracted both Barcelona and Manchester United. Both club’s have now prioritized other signings and it seems Arsenal have now moved to secure the 25-year old’s services.
Spanish publication Fichajes via the Daily Express claims Wenger is seeking a new defensive partner for Koscielny and the French man sees Musacchio as the ideal target.
However, Wenger wouldn’t have it all on his own terms as Roma are also interested in the defender’s services.
Musacchio formed a strong partnership with Gabriel at the heart of Villareal’s defense before the latter was signed by Wenger in January 2015.
Arsenal have recently been linked with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma but it would be very difficult for Wenger to pull off any of the above signings hence the idea of having Musacchio as a fall back option.
