Arsene Wenger is prepared to allow Calum Chambers leave the club on a temporary basis next season provided a new center back is signed the summer, as revealed by the Daily Mail.
Chambers, 21, was limited to a handful of appearances this season and Wenger is keen for the young center back to gain regular first team experience next term.
Wenger has now indicated he will allow the defender leave the club on loan and is prepared to listen to offers but will turn down any permanent purchase.
Wenger believes Chambers has what it takes to be a first team regular for Arsenal in the future and would not entertain any idea of selling the England international.
Southampton are very interested in taking Chambers on loan and Ronald Koeman is said to be a fan of the player who left the club in 2014 for a fee of about £16m. But the Saint’s chances of resigning Chambers on a temporary basis depends on if Wenger is able to land a new Centre back and the French man is believed to be working actively to sign one. The club has been linked with a move to sign Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Roma’s Kostas Manolas.
Wenger is determined to spend big this summer and has identified the defense as a key area to strengthen.
