Turkish giants Besiktas have confirmed their interest in Arsenal goalie David Ospina.
The Turkish giants have been heavily linked with the South American in the last couple of weeks with some reports claiming both clubs are close to reaching an agreement.
However, Besiktas Sporting director and chief of transfer committee Gokhan Keskin has revealed it’s club’s interest in the Colombian number one but has claimed discussions are still in the initial stage. Keskin told Turkish radio station Radyospor, via Turkishfootball.com:
“Nothing has been agreed on yet but we are targeting Ospina.”
Ospina is currently with his national team preparing for the summer’s Copa America competition and it is believed the deal could be completed before the start of the preseason.
Reports claim Besiktas are willing to splash as much as €3.5m to sign the 27 year old and have also promised the Colombian international a first team spot, something he couldn’t been given at the Emirates.
Should Arsenal sell Ospina, Wenger would have to search for reinforcements in the summer transfer market as on loan goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has turned down the option of returning to the Emirates this summer.
Wenger is determined to spend big this summer and is already looking at strengthening a number of key positions and should Ospina leave for Istanbul, the French man will definitely move to sign a capable back up goalie.
