Arsene Wenger seems to very interested in signing a creative midfielder this summer.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.
Yesterday, the Sun reported that Wenger is preparing to complete a double swoop on the Premier League Champions by signing Riyad Mahrez along with Jamie Vardy and claimed Mahrez is Wenger’s top target this summer.
However, the ESPN is reporting a slightly different story. According to sources close to ESPN, Wenger holds strong interest in Mkhitaryan and Mahrez but Wenger has made Mkhitaryan his first choice option.
Mkhitaryan has just one year left in his current contract at BVB and is willing to consider a move away from the Bundesliga club. It is believed the Armenia midfielder favours a move to the Emirates and has already been house hunting in the Capital City.
It is believed that Dortmund are beginning to concede defeat in keeping Mkhitaryan and the midfielder is expected to cost as much as €35m which shouldn’t prove to be difficult for Wenger to match.
Chelsea and Juventus are also interested in Mkhitaryan but the Gunners currently lead the race to sign the 27 year old.
