Arsenal have had a bid rejected for Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani, according to reports.
Wenger has been linked with a number of top strikers across Europe and reports in Portugal now claim the club has been knocked back with its approach for Slimani.
Slimani was superb for Sporting Lisbon last season scoring 31 goals in 46 appearances for the Portuguese side. His performances have attracted the likes of Leicester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
According to Portuguese Website Noticias Minuto via the Express, Sporting Lisbon have already rejected bids from the Premier League trio.
It is believed Leicester made a bid worth £19m while Liverpool and Arsenal both tabled £20m bids and the three bids were swiftly rejected by Sporting Lisbon president Bruno de Carvalho.
The Portuguese giants are insisting the player’s £24m release clause must be activated if they are to lose the forward. The report also added that the clause expires at the end of June and Sporting could demand a higher fee should any club indicate its interest after the expiration of the clause.
Slimani has been tipped by his manager Jorge Jesus to be a success in the Premier League and Premier League clubs are now on his trail. Tottenham could join the above-named trio in the race to sign the Algerian striker.
