Arsenal Legend Robert Pires has urged the club to sign more players if they want to compete with rivals next season.

Wenger recently completed the signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach but Pires feels Wenger needs to sign more players to challenge for the title next year.

The Premier League is expected to be tougher next season due to the influx of top coaches and the potential influx of world class players. Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all changed managers this summer and the new managers are expected to see a major overhaul of their playing staffs.

This would definitely bring increased competition to the league in a season where we are hoping it would be Arsenal’s year to win the League title. Pires has now urged the club to sign more players even if they complete the signing of Jamie Vardy.

Speaking to Sportsmail, Pires said: ‘Granit Xhaka is a great signing and to be honest, I’m not sure how many more players are needed. A lot is said about Arsenal going forward and if you look at goals scored, they were only a few goals off finishing top of that chart, Vardy’s addition could help next year.

‘The league will be more difficult, especially with the arrivals of Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte, plus you cannot ignore Mourinho’s appointment.

‘You expect Mourinho to get Manchester United to compete again. His rivalry with Wenger was one the most eagerly awaited clashes from the last decade of the Premier League. It’s a good fight. It may take a while for him to get his side up to scratch so it’s a chance for Wenger to fix that head-to-head record.’
