Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in its attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Dortmund playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates. It was even claimed that Wenger had made the 27 year old his priority target and the French tactician was prepared to pay as much as €30m to sign the player this summer.
The midfielder has just a year left in his BVB contract and the German club confirmed last night that the player has refused to enter talks on a new deal. However, they now have to make the decision on either selling the midfielder this summer or losing him for free next year.
It is believed that Dortmund are no longer prepared to lose any of their player this summer after losing both Matt Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan to Bayern Munich and Manchester City respectively. But Mkhitaryan is keen on a move to the Premier League, the player was thought to favour a move to the Emirates but his agent Mino Raiola has now revealed the player has set his heart on a move to bitter rivals Manchester United.
Raiola told German outlet Sport1: ‘Manchester United is a unique opportunity, as quoted by the Metro.’
‘Micki wants to go there.’
Mkhitaryan scored 18 goals and provided 20 assists for BVB in all competitions last year.
