Arsenal are now hopeful of signing Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez, according to reports in Germany.
Rodriguez is believed to be one of Wenger’s top targets this summer following the £33m capture of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.
According to German publication Bild via RedLondon.net, Arsenal have made formal contact with the defender’s club and a fee of €25m could be agreed which will see the deal completed after the Euro 2016 tournament.
The German club are prepared to sell the defender with the club’s Sporting Director Klaus Allof revealing that Rodriguez and his teammate Gustavo have asked to be sold this summer.
Allof revealed Rodriguez’s release clause is valid until July 1st and the player would be more expensive for any buyer after the said date.
“We are on the alert and we are prepared [to sell]. They [Ricardo Rodriguez and Luiz Gustavo] will not get cheaper, rather the opposite.” Allofs said.
‘There is enough time to come to a decision during that period.’
‘We’d need to internally discuss a transfer at a later date.’
Rodriguez is currently with the Switzerland national team in France and has already revealed he is open to a move to the Emirates. The ball is now on Wenger’s court to act fast if he wants to sign the defender for a relatively cheap fee.
