Wenger’s search for a left back has taken him to Brazil as the French man attempts to strengthen his backline.
Wenger has been linked with a number of left backs across the globe as he seeks a replacement for Kieran Gibbs. It is believed Gibbs is pushing for a move away from the Emirates after being fed up of playing back up to Nacho Monreal.
The English defender has reportedly told Wenger about his desire to leave and the French man is believed to be willing to sanction the exit should he find a suitable replacement for Gibbs.
And now, according to Brazilian media outlet Hoje Em Dia via the Metro, Arsenal have made contact with Atletico Mineiro as regards signing their left back Douglas Santos.
The 22-year-old defender has been impressive for the Brazilian side, attracting the interest of European heavyweights.
Barcelona are reportedly keen on the defender but are yet to contact the Brazilian club.
Arsenal have now moved ahead of the Catalan giants by contacting the player’s club.
Atletico are already resigned to losing the defender and it is believed the Brazilian club would demand as much as £7.7m for the fullback.
