Arsenal are weighing up a move for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi after missing out on Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, according to reports.
The Gunners have been working actively to sign a striker this summer but Wenger has so far been disappointed in his attempts.
Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to Arsenal after the Gunners activated the £20m release clause in his former contract. It is believed Wenger failed to give Vardy assurances on first team duties and the England international decided he was better off at Leicester, hence signing a new deal at the King Power Stadium to end Arsenal’s interest.
According to Talksport, Arsenal will now turn their attention to Icardi. The club was linked with the Argentine last summer and this report claims the Gunners registered their interest last year and are now set to return with a £32m ($43.05M) bid this summer.
The 23 year old is highly rated at Inter and was named the captain of the team by Roberto Mancini at the beginning of last season. Wenger is now determined to do whatever is needed to sign the striker this year.
Icardi scored 16 goals in 33 appearances for Inter last season and could provide adequate competition for Olivier Giroud.
