Arsene Wenger could be heading to Portugal in search of a striker to strengthen the squad this summer as the Gunners are now interested in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani according to A Bola via Sport Review.
Wenger wants to sign a striker this summer and recently made a bid for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy which was unsuccessful and the French manager has now decided to turn his attention elsewhere.
Slimani was in sensational form for Sporting Lisbon throughout last season and his displays for the Portuguese club hasn’t gone unnoticed as Wenger is said to be very impressed.
According to the report Wenger is now planning to swoop for Slimani who has a £24m release clause in his current deal.
Sporting Lisbon want to keep hold of the striker but the Portuguese club would be powerless to stop the player from moving should we step up our interest. Sporting are not prepared to lose the striker for a penny less than his release clause and Wenger is expected to trigger the clause if he wants to sign the Algerian forward.
Tottenham and Leicester City have been linked with the striker as the Foxes eyed the Algerian man as a replacement for Vardy who eventually snubbed a move to the Emirates.
Slimani scored 31 goals in 46 appearances for Lisbon last season.
