Arsene Wenger is ready to go on a spending spree this summer to challenge Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho next season, according to a report in the Daily star.
Wenger has previously revealed he is prepared to strengthen his squad this summer in order to challenge for the league title next season after finishing second last term.
The Daily Star now claims the French manager has drawn up a list of five players worth around £250m which he would try to bring over to the Emirates before the end of the summer transfer window.
Borussia Dortmund pair Marco Reus and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang along with David Alaba, N’Golo Kante and Emerick Larpote are the five players Wenger wants to sign to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
Reus and Aubameyang are expected to cost at least a combined fee of £125m as they are regarded as one of the best players in their positions.
Larpote and Kante are expected to cost Wenger £40m each and Wenger who is a fan of Kante is prepared to pay that much for the French midfielder. Larpote wouldn’t come any cheap as the centre back has a £40m release clause on his contract with Atletic Bilbao and the Spanish side wouldn’t sell the player for a penny less.
Alaba who recently signed a new deal at Bayern Munich is also expected to cost as much as £40m.
The report claims Wenger wants to go into next season with a much stronger squad to compete with Manchester United and Manchester City who are expected to strengthen their squad considerably.
