Arsenal are preparing to join the race to sign Olympic Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports.
Arsenal had been working on a deal for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy but are now set to turn to Lacazette after the bid for Vardy failed.
Lacazette has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past and according to the Sunday Mirror via the Daily Express, Wenger now wants to sign the striker this summer.
London rivals West Ham have been trying to sign Lacazette since the end of last season and Slaven Bilic’s men have already had two bids rejected by Lyon for the striker. It is believed the bids rejected were worth £31m and £32m. However, West Ham have now tabled a third and final bid worth £40m for Lacazette’s services but Arsenal are set to scupper their bid by joining the race to sign the forward.
The report claims Wenger will hold talks with the player’s representatives this week to discuss the possibility of signing the player.
It is believed Lyon would demand a fee in the region of £45m which would smash the Gunners record transfer fee.
The striker scored 23 goals in 43 appearances for Olympic Lyon in all competition last season.
