Santos president Modesto Roma has revealed the club is not prepared to sell Gabriel Barbosa to Arsenal this summer, via the Daily Express.
Wenger is reportedly keen on Barbosa and has already sent representatives to Brazil to thrash out a deal for the 19-year-old striker. The Gunners have reportedly held talks with the player’s representatives and have indicated it’s willingness to pay the player’s release clause.
However, Santos President Roma doesn’t want to sell the talented player. The president revealed the club will do everything possible to keep the player for a few more season and it is believed they are looking to tie the striker to a new deal.
“Santos will do everything to keep its athletes,” Roma told Journalists in Brazil.
“It’s good for Santos and for Lucas Lima that he fulfils the contract.
“And the club wants Gabriel to fulfil his too unless someone pays the release clause. We are open to talk, to negotiate. The career of a player isn’t only based on money.”
The player is believed to have also received offers from China and Italian outfit Fiorentina.
Barbosa has scored 54 goals and has made 148 appearances for Santos despite being only 19 years of age. He made his debut in 2013 and is performances has seen him carry the tag of the “next Neymar” in his homeland.
