Arsenal are leading the race to sign Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.
Arsene Wenger wants to sign a striker this summer and is being linked with a number of top targets across the globe.
Arsenal now look to be winning the race to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli days after the striker’s agent revealed his client isn’t interested in signing a new deal at the Italian club.
The striker reportedly has a £78.62m release clause in his contract and his agent has revealed the player could change club this summer should his release clause be activated.
Bookmarkers have now placed Arsenal as the leading contender for Higuain’s signature. According to the Daily Express, leading Bookmarker Betway have placed Arsenal at 7/2 to sign the striker. The Gunners lead PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City who are at 9/2, 5/1 and 10/1 respectively to sign the striker.
Higuain is in the best form of his life coming from the back of an impressive season where he scored 36 goals in 35 appearances for Napoli and 4 goals for Argentina in the just concluded Copa America.
It is unlikely that Wenger would activate the striker’s release clause but if the club could negotiate a lower fee to sign the striker, Higuain will definitely be an upgrade to Giroud next season.
