Arsene Wenger is moving into pole position to be the next England manager, according to reports.
The Gunners boss is heavily linked with the vacant Three Lions job and he is understood to be open to the idea of managing the England national team.
According to the Sun via the Metro, England players are of the believe that Wenger would be the right man to replace Roy Hodgson.
It is understood the players held a meeting in their Hotel room in France and concluded that Wenger should be the next manager.
However, the French man still has one year left in his Arsenal contract and the club are preparing a new two year deal that will end England’s hopes of hiring Wenger.
It remains to be seen if Wenger will commit to a new deal at the Emirates Stadium as it appears he is considering the England job. He failed to rule out taking over as England’s manager when questioned about his future plans.
“I have a contract until 2017 with Arsenal and I have always respected my contacts, but I do not yet know what I will do afterwards, Wenger said.”
