Arsenal are in talks to sign Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez, according to reports.
With the future of Kieran Gibbs still up in the air, Wenger is looking to sign a left back this summer. Top of Wenger’s wish list appears to be Rodriguez. The Switzerland international is regarded as one of the best full backs in the world as he has consistently proven his quality in the last couple of years.
It is understood the player had a £21m release clause which expired few days ago and now according to German news outlet Bild via RedLondon.net, Arsenal are the only club to have tabled a bid for the defender. The Gunners are hoping to reach an agreement with wolfsburg as quickly as possible so as to enable us open talks with the player’s representatives.
The defender has informed the German club that he wants to leave this summer and Arsenal are hoping to take advantage of that and negotiate a lesser fee than his release clause. However Wolfsburg are adamant that the left back and his teammate Luiz Gustavo would cost more now that their clause has expired.
“We are on the alert and we are prepared [to sell]. They [Ricardo Rodriguez and Luiz Gustavo] will not get cheaper, rather the opposite.” Allofs said.
Rodriguez is Xhaka’s Switzerland teammate and the defender has previously revealed it won’t be a problem lining up with the midfielder at Arsenal.
