Arsenal have handed Dutch goalkeeper Guy Smith a two week trial, according a report in the Daily Mirror.
Arsene Wenger is prepared to strengthen the first team to enable him compete for the Premier League title next season but the French man is also working hard to secure the club’s future to enable the club compete at the top for a long time. With that in mind, Wenger has quickly moved to snap up some of the best talents in the world.
First it was Takuma Asano and now Wenger is prepared to give 20-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Guy Smith the chance to impress him in a two-week trial.
The 20 year old ‘s contract at NEC Nimegen expired at the end of June and the young goalie has attracted interest from a lot of clubs in England, including Arsenal.
Arsenal are currently having a dilemma concerning Petr Cech’s backup and should Smith impress Wenger, he could just be given the chance to provide back up and learn from the Czech Republic veteran. Arsenal’s current backup David Ospina is seeking a move away from the Emirates and with Wojciech Szczesny not interested in returning back to the club, there would be no better time for Smith to show his quality.
The goalkeeper seems to know what is at stake and he is keen to take this opportunity with both hands and impress Wenger.
“This opportunity I have to seize,” Smith said.
