Liverpool are set to rival Arsenal for the signature of French international Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports.
The striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates all summer. It is believed the striker is one of Wenger’s top targets and the Arsenal manager would do what is needed to sign the striker this summer.
However, Arsenal may face competition for the striker’s signature has Liverpool could now join the race to sign the forward.
According to Le 10 Sport via Sport Review, Liverpool would make a move for Lacazette should they sell Christian Benteke this summer.
Benteke has failed to live up to expectations since completing a £32m move to Anfield and it is believed Jurgen Klopp is open to the idea of selling the Belgian international and should that happen, the Reds will rival Arsenal for Lacazette.
Wenger is believed to have held talks with Lacazette’s agent and could now approach Lyon to open talks with the French club.
It is believed Wenger wants to sign a striker before the team jets out for its preseason tour in the United States later this month and Lacazette along with Lukaku and Morata features prominently on Wenger’s wish list.
Lacazette scored 21 Ligue 1 goals for Lyon last season.
