Arsene Wenger is determined to sign a top striker this summer and has earmarked Gonzalo Higuain as one of his top targets, according to reports.
The Argentine striker has proven to be one of the best strikers in the Italian Serie A and is attracting interest from a lot of top clubs across Europe.
However, Napoli are adamant they won’t sell their talisman for anything less than his €94m release clause, a fee which has put many interested clubs away. However, Arsenal are hoping to find a way around that clause by proposing a cash plus player deal to the Italian club.
According to Italian Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio via the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger is not prepared to pay Higuain’s €94m clause and will attempt to include Olivier Giroud in a swap deal in order to drive the price down.
Wenger is looking to upgrade his strikeforce ahead of next season and the Frenchman’s willingness to give up Giroud is an indication that he is prepared to do what it takes to sign a top striker this summer.
Higuain scored 36 Serie A goals in 35 games last season and would be a perfect signing for Arsenal should Wenger be able to pull off the deal.
