Arsene Wenger has retracted his offer for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.
The French boss is reportedly keen on the Argentine international and he was believed to have proposed a player plus cash deal to sign the Argentine Striker. It was reported that Wenger would allow Olivier Giroud move to Napoli in a move that will see Higuain come the other way but the French man has now pulled plug on the move after details of the offer were leaked out in the press. Italian Journalist Raffaele Auriemma via the Metro claims Wenger has blocked the move.
‘Wenger has blocked everything,’ he explained on Radio CRC. ‘Arsenal were upset by the leak and amazed that after a few hours everything was out in the open, so have taken a step back.
‘Even [Napoli chairman Aurelio] De Laurentiis seems bitter, even angry, not because he wanted to sell Higuain, but because he feels betrayed by his market consultant, who blabbed about several different rumours.’
The news will not go down too well with Arsenal fans who have already seen the club miss out on Jamie Vardy this summer.
Arsenal will have to rely on 21 year old Chuba Akpom at the start of next season should Wenger fail to sign a striker before then.
