Arsenal target Arda Turan is set to remain at Barcelona, according to a report in the Ibtimes.
The Turkish international’s future at the Camp Nou has been subject of speculation in recent weeks with reports linking the playmaker with a move to the Emirates.
It was claimed that Wenger is considering tabling a bid for the winger who he was interested in signing last summer but it now appears there is no truth in those reports.
The player’s agent has come out to deny reports linking his client with a move away from Barcelona claiming the midfielder is very happy at the club and is looking forward to next season.
“The interest [in Arda] is normal but the rumours saying he is leaving Barcelona are false, he is happy at the club,” Ahmet Bulut told the Guardian.
Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu has also revealed the club’s desire to keep Turan and has thanked the 29 year old for his decision to move to the club last summer.
“The coaching staff count on Arda Turan and we thank both him and Aleix [Vidal] for the patience they showed to go six months without being able to play,” Bartomeu said.
Turan is undoubtedly a quality player but in my opinion, at 29, the playmaker wouldn’t have been the right choice for the club had he been on the market. Wenger would now have to concentrate on younger options like Julian Draxler if we are so keen on signing a playmaker this summer.
