“We’re working to adapt Mauro’s contract, but we still have to wait. It won’t take long to get to the point, I think in 7-10 days the picture will be clearer,” Nara told FC Inter News.

“For our part we’d like to continue the work which was begun a year ago and then interrupted. Right now our intention isn’t to renew the contract, we just want to see him on the right financial level.

Nara added: “Can I confirm Napoli and Juventus interest? Yes, the teams that would like him are those that you all know at this point.

“Will he stay? That’s a question for Mauro, I want him to stay because we’re happy in Milan but you’d have to ask him that question. He wants to stay, because he loves these colours.”

However, this news which comes as a possible blow to Arsenal’s hopes of landing the striker as Wenger is yet to move swiftly in securing his signature.

Icardi scored 16 goals in 29 appearances for Inter last season and could provide adequate competition for Olivier Giroud.
