Arsenal are stepping up its effort to sign Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, according to reports.
The Gunners have been making moves to sign a striker since the end of last season but has so far failed in its attempts.
However, it appears the club has found a breakthrough in its efforts as the club is set to begin negotiations with Icardi’s agent.
According to Italian Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio via Football Insider, Arsenal are set to hold talks with Icardi’s representatives as regards signing the Argentine this summer.
The striker still has three-years left on his contract at Inter Milan but the player’s relationship with Inter’s executives appear to be strained and could be tempted to move away this summer.
According to the Sun via the report, Inter Milan have slapped a fee of £43m on the player.
Tottenham and West Ham are also in the running to sign the striker but it is unknown how much Wenger would be willing to spend on the Argentine. The striker was an important part of Roberto Mancini’s squad last season and scored 16 goals in 33 appearances.
Icardi has the talent to develop into one of the best strikers in the world and should Inter Milan be tempted to sell, Wenger should do all he can to sign the player.
