Arsenal have cooled it’s interest in Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.
The Argentine has been linked with a move to the Emirates but it appears the Gunners have failed to reach an agreement with the player’s club.
According to Sky Italia via Inside Futbol, Arsenal have been knocked back in it’s attempt to sign the striker.
The report claims the Gunners tabled a bid of €60m + Olivier Giroud for Higuain but Napoli has rejected the bid.
Wenger has now cooled his interest in the striker as he deems him too expensive and will now turn to other targets.
Napoli made it known to the Gunners that they won’t give a discount on the player’s €94m release clause and Wenger is not interested in paying the player’s clause.
This would come as a big blow to Gooners who were hoping to see the club sign a world class striker this summer. The club has already missed out on the signing of Jamie Vardy after the England international turned down a move to the Emirates in favour of staying at Leicester City.
Juventus were also keen on Higuain but were also not prepared to pay the player’s release clause.
Higuain scored 36 goals in 35 Serie A appearances last season and would have been a quality addition to the team. However, in my opinion, it makes more sense turning to a young striker’s with enormous potential instead of spending €94m on a 28 year old.
