Arsene Wenger is a preparing a double swoop that will see him strengthen the defense this summer. The French man has identified his back four as an area that needs improvement and is working hard to improve his options ahead of next season.

According to the Sun via the Daily Express, Arsenal are eyeing a double swoop for Manchester City’s Jason Denayer and Borussia Dortmund’s Matthias Ginter.

The report claims Denayer wants to leave Manchester City this summer and Wenger is hoping to snap up the young defender. It is claimed Wenger has been monitoring the defender for more than a year and with City interested in signing a defender, there is a growing belief at the Emirates that Wenger could get his man this summer.

A source close to City confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Denayer. The source said: “Denayer signed a new contract last summer. He is rated at about £15m at the club and is on around £25,000-a-week.

“Arsenal have been interested before just over a year ago but only bid £5m. There was no follow-up offer at the time, but Wenger is a fan.”

It is also claimed the Gunners are keeping tabs on 22 year old German defender, Matthias Ginter. Ginter is regarded as one of the best talents in the Bundesliga but he has struggled to get game time at BVB and could push for a move this summer.

The talented duo are expected to cost a combined fee of £22m, with the finacial power of Premier League clubs, it wouldn’t be a problem for Arsenal to sign both. However, it now depends on if there is space for both players in the squad as the Gunners already have Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista on their books.
